I'm going to try to avoid any references to lyrics.
Other than this - can they kick it?
And if you were, the obvious answer was yes, they can.
A Tribe Called Quest were hosted by Niche Promotions on Wednesday night at the Hordern Pavilion - and what a night it was. Knowing it's one of MSO/MBW's favourite groups, I had organised with James (promoter) that in lieu of payment, we'd be willing to photograph the gig. He provided us with two photographer's passes and we fought our way through a huge queue to finally enter the venue.
Being sold out, the venue was, as you'd expect, absolutely heaving - with fans who had barely cleared the hangover of their eighteenth birthday, through to, well, slightly more 'life-experienced' fans.
I first started listening to Tribe in the early nineties and in the following years, their set has only gotten tighter and tighter until they were able to provide a complete bells-and-whistles live act.
Fantastically mastered, the sound was sensational - from where ever I was in the venue.
James brings some incredible bands to town - ranging from Australasian drum and bass heavies Shapeshifter (recently signed to Hospital records btw!) through to international luminaries like Tribe. So if you get the opportunity to check out one of Niche's gigs - jump at it...
So - to Thanks and Sticky Fingaz - sorry you weren't there guys - you'd have loved it. I'm not going to go on and on about it, and rub it in, but...
Sick! The Melb show was mad to brother :) Nice work!
